So Eden Sank To Grief

dawn's promise final.png

Nature’s first green is gold,
Her hardest hue to hold.
Her early leaf’s a flower;
But only so an hour.
Then leaf subsides to leaf.
So Eden sank to grief,
So dawn goes down to day.
Nothing gold can stay.

Lady in Red…

alafolie blog.png

I’ve never seen you looking so lovely as you did tonight
I’ve never seen you shine so bright
I’ve never seen so many men ask you if you wanted to dance
They’re looking for a little romance, given half a chance
And I have never seen that dress you’re wearing
Or the highlights in your hair that catch your eyes…

It is Rock Your Rack time again, and this time around, I am featuring the SONIA ensemble from AlaFolie. As I promised, my RYR posts this year are going to be informative. RYR hosted by Models Giving Back supports the National Breast Cancer Foundation which aids in making mammograms available to those who need them, and in battling breast cancer.

Here are some breast cancer facts you may not be aware of:

  1. 85% of breast cancer occurs in women who have NO HISTORY of breast cancer in their families.
  2. According to the American Cancer Society, breast cancer accounts for 29 percent of newly diagnosed cancers.
  3. Women who are diagnosed with cancer before age 40 have a nearly 4.5-fold increased risk of developing another breast cancer.
  4. Exercise reduces breast cancer risk for women of all body types – even lean women, according to Leslie Bernstein, Ph.D., director of cancer etiology at City of Hope.
  5.  If you’ve been diagnosed with breast cancer, you’re up to four times more likely to develop a new cancer in the same breast or in the other breast.

Where There’s a Man Who has No Voice, There Ours Shall Go Singing

If I could tell the world just one thing
It would be that we’re all ok
And not to worry because worry is wasteful
And useless in times like these
I will not be made useless
I won’t be idled with despair
I will gather myself around my faith
For light does the darkness most fear

I’ll go back to my regular format soon, because I looove telling you guys stories, but this post contains my first Rock Your Rack preview for the 2016 Rock Your Rack event hosted by Models Giving Back, so here’s the deal:

Since October is Breast Cancer Awareness month and I am participating in Rock Your Rack this year on just about every level one can participate, these posts are going to be special. With each Rock Your Rack post, I’m going to include some facts about breast cancer that not only every woman should know, but every man (because: Did you know that breast cancer does not explicitly affect women? While breast cancer in men is rare, it can happen.)

Breasts should not be so taboo. Know your body. Check yourself regularly. Don’t be afraid to speak up and speak out. We’ve all seen the shirts that say ‘Save the Tatas.’ Hell, I think I have one. Some people laugh (because hey, the word ‘tatas’ is funny, right?) but breast cancer is a serious issue. Here’s some of the reasons why:

  • One in eight women in the United States will be diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime.
  • Breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in women.
  • Breast cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death among women.

About Models Giving Back

modelsgivingbacknew-hq

Models Giving Back is an agency of professional, certified SecondLife models who give of their time and talents to raise funds for legitimate and verified SL and RL charities.

Models Giving Back was founded in October of 2012 by Jamee Sandalwood after a previous agency dedicated to charity work was forced to close due to the owner leaving SecondLife. Jamee felt the work that was being done needed to be continued and set out to lead the models that were already a part of the former agency into new and bigger endeavors at the newly created Models Giving Back.

To date the agency has partnered with dozens of designers and provided models for runway, print and other functions that support charities around SL.

Rock Your Rack is the creation of Jamee Sandalwood and is owned exclusively by Models Giving Back in SecondLife.

About the National Breast Cancer Foundation

The National Breast Cancer Foundation was founded in 1991 by breast cancer survivor, Janelle Hail. She was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1980 at the age of 34. At the time of her diagnosis, there was little information about the disease, and she was forced to make a decision about her health with few options. After her treatment, Janelle made a commitment to help women around the world by educating them about breast cancer and the importance of early detection. NBCF’s mission is to save lives through early detection and to provide mammograms for those in need. This mission includes increasing awareness through education, providing diagnostic breast care services for those in need, and providing nurturing support services.
